Vintage Bottlers, we are delighted to be making available a 27-year-old rendition from these early years of the Ben Nevis renaissance. Bottled at 44.2 ABV (Cask Strength), our offering has a short, smooth, gently warming finish; think butter sprinkled with smoked paprika.

We are confident you will enjoy this highly approachable and flavoursome whisky.

Colour: Liquid gold.

Nose: Very clean, sharply defined, stewed dark fruits with gentle spices, and a hint of background smoke.

Palate: There is an immediate, head-rocking hit from a complex cocktail of flavours that includes dark fudge and dried berries. A pronounced real liquorice is also present, all set against more fragrant, unobtrusive smoke.

Finish: A short, smooth, gently warming finish; think butter sprinkled with smoked paprika.

Verdict: A hugely enjoyable single malt, this coastal Highland whisky is too often overlooked. We cannot tell how influential the unique fermentation method, kick-started with brewer's yeast, the wooden wash-backs, and the ex-bourbon casks are. This rendition will delight those who prefer their malt complex and enjoy picking out the components of a busy, though cohesive flavour palette. A wonderful discovery.

Ben Nevis

The legendary ‘Long John Macdonald', all six foot four of him, a descendant of a ruler of the ancient kingdom of Argyll, and after whom the very popular blend was named, founded the Ben Nevis distillery in 1825. It was one of the first ‘legal’ distilleries in the Highlands. The distillery stayed in family hands until 1941 when it was purchased by an eccentric Canadian, Joseph Hobbs, who at one time also owned Bruichladdich.

Hobbs introduced Coffey stills to the Ben Nevis distillery in order that he could keep up with his blending activities, thereby making Ben Nevis one of the first to produce malt and grain whiskies simultaneously.

With the great slump in demand for whisky in the 1970s. Ben Nevis was mothballed, opening briefly under the ownership of brewers Whitbread, but it is only under the stewardship of Japanese whisky company, Nikka, that the brand has been in continuous production since 1990 and flourished ever since.

Towering above the distillery is of course Britain’s highest mountain. Ben Nevis not only provides a dramatic backdrop to the picturesque distillery nestling in its shadow, but also the cool waters of two springs which flow into Allt a Mhulinn and thence into the distillery.

We are confident you will enjoy this highly approachable and flavoursome whisky.

I’m still learning about Whisky. I’ve sampled cheap blended whisky. Then tried 10,12,14 year old single malts. But sampling a 25 year old whisky 🥃 I’m getting it. So, so smooth. Such a lasting taste and satisfying experience

Customer photo review of Annandale - 5 Year Old (Unpeated)

Great colour but only a gentle aroma. Given the cask strength I added a few drops of water and whisky stones to give a really deep and complex flavour.

Annandale - 5 Year Old (Unpeated)

I really like the quality of product and packaging but the emails arrived some days before the parcel.

My brother is the tippler. He seemed rather fond of it.

It was a well packaged surprise and the contents were excellent! Very much enjoyed by whisky buffs as a late night snifter.

Maiden's Blend Tasting Pack x4

Whisky was sharp and harsh when drank neat. When added ice it has mellowed down. But the harshness was overpowering any other notes in this bouquet.

Excellent idea to have a small taste kit to get involved in and a sample of, thanks Paul

Maiden's Blend Tasting Pack x4

Arrived just in time for Burns Night and working my way through it gradually. Cracking whiskies, with a long, lingering and delicious after taste. I've hidden it from my wife!

Maiden's Blend Tasting Pack x4

The samples had quite of quite an abrasive taste, which took quite some getting used to. It definitely had a west coast profile.

Maiden's Blend Tasting Pack x4

A lovely ,delicate whisky which has complex flavours and a long finish.

Delivery was delayed and did not arrive until August 6th. This was to be given as a birthday gift on the 5th, although the recipient still received his gift albeit a day late he was delighted with his gift. I was the one that was disappointed that the gift arrived late.

Product has only just arrived. Presentation is excellent and I am looking forward to opening the bottle with my sons.
